AMERICAN MAROONS A People Formed in Autonomy, Resistance, and Continuity
American Maroons are a historically documented class of autonomous communities formed in the
Americas by peoples who withdrew from imperial systems of control and established self-governing
societies beyond colonial authority.
In North America, Maroon communities are historically evidenced in regions such as the Great
Dismal Swamp, Spanish Florida, and the Carolina–Georgia low country, where Africans,
Afro-descended peoples, and Indigenous allies created independent settlements through
resistance, flight, treaty, and cultural alliance.
WHAT “MAROON” MEANS (HISTORICALLY)
The term Maroon derives from early Iberian usage (cimarrón), referring to people who existed
outside imperial control—not merely “escaped slaves,” but self-organized, autonomous populations.
Historically, Maroon societies were characterized by: • Self-governance • Territorial defense •
Cultural preservation • Treaty-making with colonial powers • Inter-ethnic alliance and fusion

In the southeastern territories that later became the United States, Maroon communities: • Existed prior to U.S. statehood • Interacted and mixed with Indigenous nations. Developed distinct creole cultures, languages, and kinship systems • Survived through wetlands, swamps, coastal islands, and frontier zones . From the Dismal Swamp , Angola Swamp , Low Country/ Ogeechee , just to name a few . Which stretched from Virginia , Carolina’s , Georgia , Florida , also including Alabama , and Louisiana .

AMERICAN MAROON peoples and their members have the same rights as indigenous peoples and their members. For the IACHR, “international human rights law imposes an obligation on the state to adopt special measures to guarantee the recognition of tribal peoples’ rights, including the right to collectively own property. The jurisprudence of the Inter‐American Court of Human Rights in relation to the right to collective property applies not only to indigenous peoples, but also to Maroon peoples who preserve their traditional ways of life based on a special link to their lands and territories. Thus the American Maroon Community and different cases, the victims belonged to different communities or peoples who form part of the Maroon populations descending from self‐emancipated slaves that settled in their territories since the colonial period and are therefore not regarded, stricto senso, as “indigenous.” The Court considers the Maroons to be “tribal” peoples and communities.

Etymology & Identity
• Ge’ullah (גְּאֻלָּה) — Hebrew for redemption, restoration, or kin-redeemed.
Denotes those spiritually and lawfully redeemed from exile (Gola) and restored to Yahudi covenant nationhood.
• Este-Lvste (Ista Lusti) — Creek/Maskoki root meaning Black folk or the dark people of the South.
Represents the Creole-Maroon ethnos formed in the Carolina–Florida–Gulf corridor.
• Amacario (Μακάριος / Yashar) — From Greek Makarios, “blessed, upright.”
Together, Ge’ullah Este-Lvste Amacario translates to:
“Redeemed Upright Black Folk of Yahuah — the Marooned Yahudim & Indigenous Peoples of United States of America/Arzareth.”
Historical-Prophetic Lineage
• Descends from the Yahudim exiles (Gola) dispersed through Iberia, Lusitania, and West Africa prior to the 1492 expulsion.
• Formed Maroon confederacies in the Americas by uniting:
• Blackamoor-Sephardic–Marrano Yahudim (crypto-Jews of Portugal/Spain),
• Negro De Guinea deported under Inquisitorial laws,
